It’s no secret that Brooklyn is one of the hottest 100 square miles on the planet right now. But don’t take my word for it – ask the guy who spent $6 million on a 2,000 sq. ft. pad in Cobble Hill.
Under the radar, though, is another trend I’ve noticed picking up since 2008, when I established my periodontal and dental implant practice.
Some background: As a periodontist, most of the patients that walk into my practice are referred by a general dentist who is typically in local geographic area. When I started my practice, there were only 1 or 2 dentists – my age – that referred patients to me. Most the of the dental practitioners who would refer patients (those with periodontal disease or missing teeth) circa 2009 are a group of experienced, skilled dentists who have been practicing for 20+ years.
Enter 2016: In the last 3 years alone, there have been multiple new dental practices that have opened up shop within 3 or 4 miles. These dentists are a new breed – they are entrepreneurial millennials who cater to the incoming young couple and small family unit.
Clearly, the new dentists don’t see value in purchasing or joining an existing, established dental practice.
