BONE REGENERATION

Periodontal disease can cause tooth loss. Bone loss around teeth is one of the symptoms of periodontal disease. Careful treatment planning can allow teeth with severe bone loss to be saved. See below for several cases.

Case #1

Patient presents with severe periodontal disease along a front tooth #8. A periodontal regeneration procedure is employed to improve the long term prognosis. Removal of the tooth is avoided.

Case #2

This 40 year old male presented with a large localized periodontal infection. There is complete loss of bony support between the two teeth. The next x-ray was taken 16 months after bone graft was completed. The bony anatomy is fully restored.


Case #3

Following removal of an infected molar tooth, the image on the left shows significant radiolucency. The image on the right, taken 10 minutes later, shows the bone graft in place. Following healing, the patient will be ready for a dental implant.

This lower tooth suffered from severe bone loss. A conservative procedure was employed to regenerate and regrow the supporting bone tissues and allowed the patient to avoid removal of the tooth.
